Measures for echo sound of music studio : SHIZUKA Stillness Panel can be an answer

Today’s article is about sound absorption panel for music studio.

We received consultation from our customer who lend instruments and studio for overseas orchestras. They wanted to take measures against indoor echoes. A sound articulation panel has already been set up in the room, and a certain level of echo sound has been taken measures. However, they are considering our acoustic panel “SHIZUKA Stillness Panel (SSP)”  for a more dead space.

Depending on the size of the room, if the piano room is about about 10 square meters, you can adjust the reverberation of the room indoors using about 4 panels with the size of 1000 mm × 1000 mm. It is effective if you place it around the piano without concentrating on one wall. It is ideal to set the height to about the position of the ear than the lower part of the wall. Also, if curtains and carpets are laid, the sound absorbing effect will rise so it is more effective.

Now, let’s talk about the relationship between sound absorbing material and sound absorption coefficient. For example, SSP (thickness of 36 mm) can absorb 90% of the 500 Hz portion, but when this is urethane, it only absorbs 15% to 30% with the same thickness. In order to bring urethane to the same degree of sound absorbing effect as SSP, it needs at least 4 times the thickness. Then the effective area of the room will be reduced correspondingly, and the cost will be high. The urethane which is often adopted in the studio is about 25 to 40 mm in thickness, so it can be said that there is a big difference in the sound absorbing effect.

The sound field of the room can be changed. Please choose the material assuming the environment you want to do.
