Why sound absorbing panels are effective for piano, violin

Hello, this is Mr.I of Shizuka Co., Ltd..

Today’s article is about why sound absorbing panels are effective for piano, violin.
original article in Japanese (日本語の記事)

Our acoustic panel “SHIZUKA Stillness Panel (SSP)” features a wide range of sound absorbing effects, but it is very useful for people who play and listen music. The volume and frequency generated by the instrument are different. Therefore, we recommend that you consider the sound field of the room depending on the music you want to listen to. For example, since the high frequency range is conspicuous in violin, you can enjoy the proper reverberation time and the original sound of the instrument by processing in the high range. On the other hand, if the same processing is performed when there is a low frequency range like a piano, the balance between the treble and the bass will be worse. In this case,  the high frequency range does not echo and the low frequency range remains, the badness of the low frequency range becomes conspicuous. In order to balance this, a wide range of sound absorption is required.

As shown in the graph, comparing the frequency of each instrument, the sound absorption range of SSP, and the sound absorption range of sound absorbing urethane is easy to understand. Regarding piano, there are parts that can not absorb some bands, but you can cover most instruments. You can reproduce the quality of the original sound for those who perform by installing the SSP around. Also, for listeners, unstable parts will not be generated by sound adjustment.
